Guild raffle quilt

As promised, here is a picture of the completed guild raffle quilt.

I am showing you some closeups of the border and sashing patterns here.

And here's an even closer view of the echoing around the applique.

This quilt took almost two weeks to long arm, but I was only working about 4 hours a day on it. And it would have been much more tedious without my wonderful IntelliQuilter to create and stitch out patterns. Even so, the final straight lines piano keying the borders were all done by hand, but the echoing was compliments of IQ.
Now to finish the second guild quilt, hopefully by Saturday.

Coming along

It's been several days since my last post. The frozen pipes coming into the house have been fixed, and all the laundry that had accumulated during our "waterless" days is done.
Once the chores were done, I had time to go back to quilting. The guild raffle quilt was finished on Saturday, and I will post pictures on Wednesday when the guild puts it up on a huge display frame for photographs. It took me about 12 days, quilting about 4 hours a day, more or less, and trying to keep it similar to the picture in the Fons and Porter magazine. More about that after Wednesday.
The second guild quilt could not be started because the backing didn't arrive until today. So I squeezed in a customer quilt, picture below.

I belong to the Lake Gaston Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Last Wednesday one of our members gave us a class on tube quilts during which we were to use up as many scrap fabrics as we could and make charity quilts out of them. They will go to children who are leaving the local orphanage, a kind of "graduating" present now that they are too old to stay there any more. Here's the one I made and quilted Sunday.

I also joined the Pat Sloan Winter Olympic project group online, the aim of which is to complete as many UFO's as you can during the Olympics. Since I had longarm work to do, I have only one UFO that I'm working on right now. It's called Betsy Ross Sampler and comes from a pattern in the August, 2003 McCall's Quilting. Seven years! How did I let it go for that long? I still have the final border and the quilting to do, but here it is for now.

I'll catch up with you after Wednesday! Meanwhile, have a serene time quilting.

We have water! Yesterday the men came and put a new water line to the house. It took them four hours, and now we can wash, cook, clean, flush, shower -- heaven!

End of the Camp

Had a great time at Camp Sloanie! Can't wait for the spring weekend. Pat Sloan sure runs a great virtual camp out.

This is the final project I finished. It's Pat's "The House on Chelsea Lane" pattern -- so cute!

All told, I created the Stashbuster Mashup quilt, two Eleanor Burns "leftover" quilts, and finished three UFO's that had been waiting in the wings! Whew!

Sloanie weekend

We've been busy as the proverbial beavers today! Mary finished three quilts from scratch, and I finished two that had been in the works and two de novo.

We had snow all day, but the ground was too warm for it to settle, so DH, Mary and I made a pizza run just to get out of the house. When we came back, we discovered that we no longer had water to the house. We don't know where the break is, but for now we're roughing it with water for toilets carried in from the lake, which, fortunately, abuts our back yard. Still have electricity and Netflix, so we're good to go!

Welcome to Longarm Diva blogspot! This is the home of Lakeside Quilting in Ebony, VA, owned and operated by me, Donna Turner. I'm getting my feet wet on the web by blogging. If I get up the nerve, I may even go on to having a web site for my customers to see, but for now, this is enough of a beginning for me.

This weekend I'm joining lots of other fabric junkies on Pat Sloan's Camp Sloanie Stashbuster site. This is the quilt I'm working on for this project. It's filled with luscious Kaffe Fassett fabrics, gem tones, and black and white strips.

My friend Mary from Maryland, also a longarmer and avid quilter, is spending a few days with me. Well, more than a few. She no sooner had left Maryland to travel down here than a blizzard hit up there, so she's here until the highways, and specifically her street, can be dug out.

Meanwhile, we sip cafe mocha and eat Jelly Belly beans and sew, sew, sew!

I'll post some pictures of my quilting for you to see tomorrow. I have a Nolting 24 Pro longarm with the Intelliquilter computerized robotics set up on it. You'll be able to see how beautifully this combination enhances quilts.
